I originally created this blog with the intention of making it a travel diary of my stay in Ireland in the summer of 2009. Of course (as often happens when travelling) I was soon so immersed in my new life and adventures that I had scarcely a minute to devote to chronicling them. Laughing with my Irish coworkers, travelling the countryside, exploring medieval cities and listening to trad music in the pubs was more than enough occupation for that eventful summer.
I never deleted the blog, though, because the title meant something to me. It comes from a beautiful poem by W.B. Yeats entitled “To Ireland in the Coming Times”:
While still I may, I write for you
The love I lived, the dream I knew.
From our birthday, until we die,
Is but the winking of an eye...
Unlike my summer in Ireland, one gift I seem to have at this stage in my life is extra time. A recent graduate and in between full time employment, it is a strange blessing to have hours to devote to exactly what I want to do. In between internships, editing Linkedin profiles, networking, building contacts, and finding bits of part time work to support myself, I have been given exactly what I wanted throughout all my busy years of school: time each day to devote to living the life I wanted to live. It is my wish keeping this blog will inspire me to spend my time wisely, and hopefully that will include time for writing!
